2018 Graduate Fellowship Awardees

Every year, students pursuing a Ph.D. are invited to apply for a graduate fellowship, which are offered by DEIS to further graduate education in the areas of electrical insulation and dielectric phenomena of interest to the Society and are open to suitable candidates from all over the world. Typically, three applicants are awarded a fellowship. This year, DEIS is pleased to present five applicants with a fellowship. For students interested in applying, you can read more about the fellowship here.

The 2018 Fellowship Awardees are as follows:

Chunjia Gao

Affiliation: North China Electric Power University

Project Title: Interface Charge Characteristic of Insulation Structures under Various Voltage Stresses

Chunjia Gao was born in Shandong Province, China, on 5th August 1991. He received the B.E. degree in electrical engineering from China Agricultural University in 2013. Now he is pursuing a Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering in the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, North China Electric Power University. His current research interests include electric field and space/interface charge characteristics in electrical insulation structures.

Yang Ge

Affiliation: State Key Laboratory of Alternate Electrical Power System with Renewable Energy Sources, North China Electric Power University

Project Title: Working mechanism of nanoparticles on charge transport, streamer propagation and breakdown property of transformer oil

Yang Ge was born in Shandong, China in 1991. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering from China Agricultural University in 2010. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate supervised by Prof. Chengrong Li (IEEE Senior Member, IET Fellow) and Yuzhen Lv (vice supervisor) at North China Electric Power University. He is a student member of IEEE and also a DEIS member. His research interests include charge transport, streamer propagation and breakdown property of transformer oil-based nanofluid. Based on streamer characteristics, the relationship between the charge transport at the micro-level and the breakdown property at the macro-level is built up to reveal the working mechanism of nanoparticles on transformer oil.

Lakshya Mittal

Affiliation: School of Engineering Technology, Purdue University

Project Title: Proteomic Analysis of Breast Cancer Cell Plasma Membrane Electroporation using Ultra-Microsecond and Other Pulses

Lakshya is currently a Ph.D. student at Purdue University, where he studies electrochemotherapy for aggressive forms of breast cancer. He received his M.S. degree in Electrical Engineering in 2013 from the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (IITM) in 2015 and subsequently worked as a Post Graduate Engineer Trainee at ALSTOM Transport India Ltd. until 2016.

Maryam Mesgarpour Tousi

Affiliation: Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
