2021 DEIS Graduate Fellowship Winners

Every year, the IEEE Dielectrics and Electrical Insulation Society offers fellowships to eligible graduate students who are pursuing areas of work of interest to the society.

To learn more about the fellowship or apply for a future one, check out the Education portion of the DEIS website here.

Below are the 2021 fellows:

Shaojie Wang

Shaojie Wang was born in Jiangsu Province, China in 1996. He received his B.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from North China Electric Power University in 2018. Currently, he is a Ph.D. student in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Tsinghua University. His research interests include the relaxation and charge transport of the interphase in the nanodielectric. Shaojie Wang works on the characterization of interface, in the early stage, he tried to detect the interface with scanning probe microscopy and published 4 papers on the polarization and charge of the interface (Advanced Materials 31(21), 2019Energy Storage Materials 28:255-263, 2020Nature Communications 11(1), 2020, ACS Applied Materials & Interfaces 12(47):53425-53434, 2020). Scanning probe microscopy is also used to help to detect the multi-layer structure in the ferroelectric polymer composites (Composites Science and Technology 202:108594, 2021). Recently, he developed an intermodulation electrostatic force microscopy to map the electric polarizability in a heterogeneous dielectric material with surface irregularities. (Nanotechnology 32(50),c2021). In this process, he found a brand method to study on the detail of interface, model polymer, as is proposed in the project, and his work has not yet been published.

Project Title: “Understand the interphase of nanodielectric from the direct detection in model polymer”

Shixun Hu

Shixun Hu was born in Jilin Province, China. He received the B. Sc. Degree on Electrical Engineering in 2013 from North China Electric Power University (Baoding). From 2015-2016, he worked as a guest engineer on high voltage test and substation relay protection, in North Sudan. Since 2017, he started pursuing the Ph. D. Degree in Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, North China Electric Power University, and became a joint-supervised
student in Tsinghua University from 2018. His research is focused on the thermoplastic materials for HVDC cable insulation. He is the winner of 2020 IEEE Caixin Sun and Stan Gryzbowski Best Student Paper Award, and was awarded as the excellent paper winner of IET journal High Voltage in 2020.
